Audience

This course is intended for novice users of CommonLook PDF as well as those users who are interested in refreshing their PDF accessibility and CommonLook knowledge.

No prior knowledge of CommonLook PDF, accessibility or Section 508 is required.

Description

The course consists of two parts; an introductory background and hands-on instruction.

The following topics will be covered in the introductory background portion.

  • Introduction to PDF and Accessibility
  • Introduction to Section 508
  • Applying Section 508 to PDF
  • Testing for Section 508 Compliance
  • Making a PDF Document Section 508 Compliant (without CommonLook)
  • Introduction to CommonLook PDF
  • Using CommonLook PDF to make documents Section 508 Compliant

The following topics will be covered in the hands-on section. Participants are expected to follow the instructor as he/she remediates a number of PDF documents.

  • The "Verify and Remediate" facility, user interface overview
  • Introduction to PDF structure
  • Elements in the logical tab
  • Properties of tags
  • Fix a document up to a data table
  • Fix a data table
  • Fix Common PDF document problems
  • Run the Section 508 Checkpoints
  • Fix a form
  • Fix abbreviations and acronyms

There will be a 30 minute break for lunch and two 10-minute breaks in the morning and afternoon.
